Tim Welch, Music Director

Los Cantantes’ Music Director and Conductor is Timothy G. Ruff Welch.

Tim is a choral director, collaborative pianist, organist and voice teacher/coach. With roots in Wisconsin, Tim completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Luther College, Iowa, with majors in piano and business administration. He attended graduate school at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, concentrating on coaching and accompanying. He came to Guadalajara from Chicago in 1999.

As well as directing Los Cantantes del Lago, Tim is Organist/Choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar/Chapala and a private voice and piano instructor. He recently retired as director of Coro Municipal de Zapopan. In 2006, Tim, along with other members of Quinteto Mexicano, represented Mexico as musical ambassadors to Ecuador. In 2007, he premiered the piano composition Opus 30, No. 2 by Guadalajara composer Luís Montes in France. He has led Los Cantantes del Lago on several tours including Greece, Turkey, Ecuador, Central Mexico, Canada and Cuba. Tim has also performed throughout Europe, Middle East and North America.
