Who are we?
We are a mixed choir that performs both accompanied and a cappella pieces that range from classical to folk, religious to secular, and they may or may not be in English!
We offer anyone who loves music the opportunity to sing and improve their vocal skills, in a friendly and congenial environment.
How many rehearsals are there?
Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00PM – 5:30PM at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar. Members may not miss more than two rehearsals during a concert season. All absences should be discussed with the Music Director.
Do you need to be an amazing singer?
No, all you need to be a good choir member is a love of singing and the energy and passion to join us in being your best. We provide audio files that will assist you in learning the pieces for each concert.
What is the expected level of commitment?
We expect that you will not only participate fully in the scheduled rehearsals but that you will commit to using the audio files on your own (or with small groups) so that you come to the rehearsals prepared to “create music”.
Our members are also expected to help “fill the house” for our concerts. There is nothing more energizing than performing for a full and appreciative audience! We also encourage participation in the basic setting up and breaking down of rehearsal space and performance space to the degree that members are able. It is true that many hands make light work!
The only costs per concert season (Holiday & Spring) are 400 pesos to cover the cost of music, etc. For new members, there is also the cost of concert attire.
OK, so what do I get out of being a Los Cantantes chorister?
In return for your commitment to the choir, we promise that you will develop and strengthen your musical skills, become part of a fun loving community and laugh at least twice a week!
Do I have to audition?
Our Music Director, Tim Welch, likes to spend a few minutes getting to know you and part of this time is spent doing about 15 minutes of vocalization. There is no need to prepare for this meeting. No pressure!
